Q: migrating playlists

I recently upgraded my old desktop to a laptop; I paid someone to migrate my stuff over as I didn't have the expertise. All my music came over, I think, but my playlists are empty. Do I now have to redo them manually? My tech guy doesn't have an answer..he reckons this is the price you pay to have iTunes...or an involvement with Apple!

Your "tech guy" is incompetent. The symptoms suggest that he copied your media folders but not your iTunes database (the iTunes Library.itl file) and other associated components of the complete iTunes library. See (or refer him to) How to move your iTunes library to a new computer - Apple Support.
