What is this panic trying to tell me?

Machine has ran rock solid for YEARS, right up until Yosemite came out. Ever since then it has been CRASH-O-RAMA 😢

Apple diagnostics give it clean bill of health, Apple Store had it a whole day and didn't find anything wrong.

MemTest86 overnight ,came up clean.

Last week, a fresh install of 10.10.4.

Had many random restarts since then...

There was a recall on that model (now ended) for defective hard drives. That's one possible cause of the problem. Another is the Drobo. Please disconnect it and see whether the panics stop.

Spontaneous reboots have been going on for several weeks PRIOR to the installation of the drobo.

(Ever since YOSEMITE - Coincidence???)

The boot drive passes all of its S.M.A.R.T. tests - if it was defective, would it not fail the SMART?

Does anyone happen to have a link to that hard drive recall?

Please remove two of the memory modules and see whether the panics stop. Then switch modules and test again.

Thats a good Idea... Turns out that all 4 of these RAM modules are "Apple-certified", by the way.

Seems this could be related to the VIDEO CARD - symptoms listed in the 'video card recall' ( https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203787 )

I suspect that OS X 10.10.3 / 10.10.4 has some clever new 'video tweak' that exercises my (probably defective) video card in just the way needed to crash the system. That might explain why I have not seen very many kernel panic reports.

I have booked the machine into the Apple store (again)... Apple assures me that replacement of the video card is covered under warranty extension!! (I'm in Canada)

Ram chip swapping hasn't solved anything, but I did get the machine in for a GPU replacement. (Free repair, under the recall program).

Its only been back a day - but so far, no crashes yet.

Still runs as warm as ever : CPU about 44C, GPU about 52C, under extremely light loads (99% idle)...

Incidentally...

The (suspected bad) GPU did not fail the GPU warranty replacement tests, (Passed MRI, VST, ASD, OS & EFI) and actually none of the hardware ever failed an Apple Diagnostic test (and it was tested multiple times). But they went ahead and changed the GPU anyway, and I haven't had a spontaneous reboot since!

COINCIDENCE???!?!? I dunno! But I strongly suspect that the OS X programmers 'tweaked' (probably by accident!!!) some obscure video code in Yosemite that now 'actively disturbs' hitherto latent 'Bad Video Chips'.

Incidentally - spontaneous reboots were not the only problem I was having "ONLY since Yosemite". I was also getting all-too-frequent beach balling, and Finder crashes, leading to totally unresponsive system. And guess what, I still get those issues now.

( Pondering if it's worth trying a FOURTH CONSECUTIVE 'WIPE THE DRIVE, AND CLEAN INSTALL THE CURSED YOSEMITE"...) 😟

Try running this program and then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read.

For me, the constant Beach-balling has been SOLVED by disabling ALL iCloud services.

Seems solved, since uptime is now 72 hours with no crashes ( was multiple daily crashes before I disabled iCloud)

Apple bug techs suggested I try disabling logitech control centre, but I haven't done that (didn't have to, since disabling iCloud has apparently cured this longstanding - since about 10.10.3! - crashfest).

Everything working OK now in 10.10.4 ... This machine hasn't been solid since Mavericks, but disabling iCloud seems to have finally done the trick!

I have absolutely no desire to beta-test 10.10.5, what with the massive amounts of 10.10.5 grief already being reported here. Its a pity that Apple can't separate the 'critical security patches' from the rest of the "system updates"... I really do not need any further 'evolution' of the OS, thanks!
