Update from 10.8 to 10.10/10.11

Hi,

Currently I have a MacMini Server on OX 10.8.5.

I use the mac to connect HD's so multiple computers in my office can connect to them and have my team save all the files to it.

I know if I upgrade I will also have to upgrade the server app for $20. So I may wait till 10.11 comes out so I won't have to upgrade now and then.

I wanted to know Once I update to 10.10/10.11 and update/purchase the new server version will all the setting stick and be there or will I have to redo all the settings?

Thanks for all the help.

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014), OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

In previous versions settings held unless there was a new or additional function that had to be setup. No ne can say what 10.11 will do since it has yet to be released.
