SBOD after Leopard fresh install

Hi All,

I'm literally at my wits end with a late 2005 PowerMac G5 PowerPC

Only a few months ago it would present a spinning beach ball of death (SBOD) at random times whilst I was using it... I primarily user Logic 8 for music production and very little else.

Thinking that this could be disk related, I replaced the single internal SATA disk with a new Western Digital SATA disk (1 TB, Caviar Green WD10EARS, with jumper to reduce speed to 1.5)

I obtained the Leopard DMG file and placed it on the new disk....rebooted and completed the Leopard installation.

Not more than 5 minutes into using it, SBOD again!!! Aaaaargh!!

I even tried PRAM, NVRAM and PMU resets.

I'm not sure what step to take next, but I would hate to have to dump this machine cos when it works it's great!....any suggestions?

Cheers,

Daz

PowerMac, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Open console in Applications>Utilities, check the system log for the date/time of the last problem & the Startup right after that for clues.

Click on the top line we want, Shift plus click on the bottom line we want, CMD+c to copy, then paste the text in a reply with CMD+v

A few dozen lines should be about right, hundreds or thousands won't likely be readable.

Hi There,

I finally got around to trying what you said...although I had to run Terminal from the Leopard install CD, and copy the system log from the internal disk to a USB stick!

I'm not sure how much of the log to paste into the reply...I've included a bunch from the start, then from the end....there's a LOT in between.

Is there any way I can attach the file to this thread? Or send directly to you in PM?

Hope this helps! Is there any diagnostic I can run? I only have the OSX install CD, no Apple Hardware Test CD
