What happens when you try?
Have you installed iTunes on your computer?
Explain in as much detail as possible so we may help you.
It is at least 6 years old and up to 9 years old.
The battery may be dead or it may be broken.
No it isn 6 years + and when i plug it into my laptop which had ITunes downloaded nothing happens, it doesn't recognise that the ipod has been plugged in or anything x
I Have the same problem.....so if anyone can help it would be great

Yes it is is 6+ years old.
You may not have had it 6+ years but Apple quit making them 6+ years ago.
The 2Gb version was discontinued in March 2009 and the 1GB version was discontinued in Sept 2009.
That points to a problem with either the cable, or the iPod itself. If you can, try a different cable/dock. Otherwise, its possible the iPod is dead. Does it still turn on? Play music?
My shuffle is doing the same thing and won't turn on to recharge. Have not used in forever. Light was on charging and I turned computer on and now it won't turn on. Hope you find help and if you do please someone help me. My songs all appear on itunes but itunes says it does not know my shuffle and tells me to restore.

Most likely the battery is dead.
Yes the battery probably is dead, like when I originally got my shuffle. I have it plugged directly into the wall now and still no light and it should come on plugged in? How do I know its charging?

The light is on when it is charging.
The battery no longer works. It is not simply in need of recharging.
