Seagate 3TB GoFlex drive won't mount despite appearing in Disk Utility

I have a Seagate 3TB GoFlex drive which won't mount on my white Macbook despite appearing in Disk Utility. (DIsk Utility can't fix it).

Somewhere I read a solution which involved removing a single file. This allows the disk to mount so that the data can be removed and the disk then reformatted.

The trouble is, I just can't remember what the file was! It wasn't the Seagate driver.

Any ideas?
