Q: Keychain sign in problem

I recently had the hard disk in my Mac replaced as part of Apple's replacement program.  This meant effectively setting up my Mac as a new machine from a Time Machien backup. Everything has worked except one thing, Keychain.

I need to sign in on my iPad or iPhone to allow Keychain to operate on my Mac.  This is normal but when the pop up window appears in my iPad to let me do this I sign in as usual with my Apple password - but the window keeps appearing as if it has not accepted it. Sometimes this window appears for a second or so before disappearing not allowing any time for text input.

I've never had this before.  Any help or suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks.

    Hi lgcebuk,

I'm sorry to hear you are having these issues with your Mac. I also apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature of the issue you are describing, or the sign-in message you are seeing on your iPad/iPhone. If you are talking about an issue setting you Mac back up for iCloud Keychain, you may find the information and steps outlined in the following article helpful:

Thanks for replying  -  after about two hours of playing around I solved the problem.  The messages to permit Keychain on my Mac were appearing every 20 or so seconds on my iPad and then disappearing within 5 seconds.  On the occasions when I did manage to input my Apple ID password the iPad didn't tell me it was wrong but just kept showing the same message every 20 seconds.  This effectively stopped me using my iPad because the message disable all other clicks etc.

My Mac had been telling me to authorise its use of Keychain on another device and that's why I kept responding to the iPad requests.  In fact what solved it was ignoring the iPad messages and the message to authorise on a device other than the"new" Mac.  In the end I requested a "new code" on my Mac, it arrived on my phone and I entered it into the Mac.

That stopped the repeating messages on my iPad and signed this Mac into Keychain.

I appreciate you being prepared to offer help.  The solution was counter-intuitive but worked!
