Third Party USB 3.1 Type C Cable Charges Very Slowly

My non-Apple USB 3.1 Type C cable and Apple 29W wall adapter charges my macbook very slowly (~50% in 10 hrs). Why doesn't the cable charge at full speed? Do I have to use the Apple USB-C charge cable to get the full charging speed?

MacBook, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)
