Record two mics at once in FCPX

Can you record two microphones at once into two separate audio tracks? Then again, that raises the question of why not just record what person 1 is saying then what person 2 is saying and sort the clips out in the editor.

Not directly into FCPX, it only accepts a single audio input at a time. In Logic Pro X you can do this if your audio I/O device supports it. You can also do it in camera very easily while shooting the video, placing one mic on each of the two (left and right) channels.
