why does my iphone crash when i open apps

why does my iPhone 5 crashes when I use certain apps, overheats when I barley used the iPhone and shuts off unexpectedly with lines and goes to the apple logo than turns back on. why does this happen and what do I need fix?

iPhone 5, iOS 8.4
