why does iTunes update not appear in app store

Why, when an update message appears when I open iTunes and I click on "Download Now", it takes me to the App Store and then proceeds to show me no iTunes update? I have come across this before and pretty sure I asked the community about it, but don't remember getting a satisfactory answer and can't find the thread anymore....

I don't really care one way or the other, I know where to go to get the update. It just irritates me when something doesn't work as designed and I have to find out why....

Is there an update for your Mac OS or computer software in the Mac OS App store?

Or is there an update for an iOS item in iTunes App store?

Nope. Last OS update was on July 4, 10.10.4. and the last update that came in on the App Store was a Digital Camera RAW update on Jul 9. This happened when iTunes 12 came out initially, as I recall. It's just very baffling that an update is available, but does not appear in the App Store...

Thanks, but as I said in my original post, I know where to go for the update. That was not the question. The question was why it does not appear in the App Store....

Who would know. I learned long ago not to put my full faith in the App Store. But you can make a complaint here Feedback

Well, I figured if there was an answer to be had, it would probably be found on here.... Like I said, I posed the question once before, but can't remember what the answer was, if there even was one. I have slowly been learning not to trust the App Store either.... Thanks for the Feedback link, i will follow it let them know.

You want to update iTunes and it does not appear in Apple menu - App store > Updates?

I don’t recall ever seeing iTunes updates int eh App store.

They are thru iTunes itself.

Sorry, thought my answer was pretty clear, but in any case, this is an update to iTunes on my MBP. I don't know about getting updates for iTunes in the App Store, but the update message did originate in iTunes.

Clicking on the Download iTunes button in the pop-up message immediately self-directs to the App Store, which then checks for any new updates, and there are none. Apparently, it sounds like it's not supposed to do that, but I can't remember if it has always done that or not.

Gotcha...

Yeah, I don’t recall ever seeing updates for iTunes thru the App store.

I know iTunes is not available in the App store under any of the tabs (Featured, Top Charts, Categories, Purchased) or Apps Made by Apple.

The update should download directly or open Safari and take you to the iTunes download page…

I don’t recall how it was done.

Yeah, it doesn't sound like it is supposed to go to the App Store and I am pretty sure in the past it has simply downloaded the update, like you said.... Just don't understand why it is going to the App Store and it is kind of annoying that i have then go to the iTunes page and get the update myself.

Just looks like another iTunes bug to me. I don't remember getting iTunes any other way than Software Update.
