Q: Color Correct entire clip + keyframe

I'm struggling to keyframe color correction. My problem is that as I am zooming out I need to lighten the entire frame. The shot starts bright and becomes dark and I'm hoping to use keyframes and color correction to adjust the darkness. How do I do this in FCPX 2.1?

    Mmmm... you'll have to do a few steps.

    Screen Shot 2015-07-31 at 12.25.50 AM.jpg

    At the start of the zooming out and place a marker...

    Move the play head at the end of the zooming out and place a marker...

    -----------------

    Place the playhead between the two markers.... Spilt (blade) the clip at this point...

    -----------------

    Place a color correction node/effect on the second half of the clip... make you color correction...

    Place a dissolve transition at the split...

    Lengthen the dissolve (handles) to the marker.

    -----------------

    Here's something I just made... down and dirty... zooming and changing the color correction.

    You should get the idea. To bad FCP doesn't have key  framing for collection.

    Nice work, Mr Brewer, lot of effort to explain an approach to a common problem.

    Hope the OP appreciates it.

    Another (not necessarily better) method would be to:

    apply the color corrector and just  adjust exposure to the level that you want at the end of the zoom;

    apply your zoom;

    duplicate your clip as a connected clip directly above the clip:

    disable the CC on the connected clip'

    keyframe the opacity of the connected clip to give you the desired result.

    That's why people need to learn DaVinci Resolve (it's free, better to download it from the BlackMagic site than to use the one in the App Store).

    You can round trip your project from FCP... or just import the single clip into DaVinci Resolve... do the color correction (keyframes and all)... export to a ProRes file... relink the original file (FPX) to the DaVinci Resolve ProRes file... done. I did the same thing the OP wanted in DaVinci and it took all of a few seconds to do.

    For the life for the life of me I don't understand why people don't use this app in-conjunction with FCP. Not only is it a powerful color corrector it's has a killer video editor in it too.
