6th Gen Nano will not sync with iTunes 12

I am trying to sync a 6th Gen Nano to a MacBook Air with iTunes 12. The Nano is recognized by iTunes and the battery charges but I cannot get the music to sync. I see the content on the Nano and they are all grayed out.

Please let me know how to resolve this issue. Thank you.
