External Superdrive for a MacBook Pro that already has an internal superdrive?

Hello all,

Ever since I updated to Yosemite, I have not been able to put any type of disc into my internal disc drive on my MacBook Pro (13" 2012). I have tried cleaning out the slot, resetting PRAM, SMC, etc. and none of it has worked. I don't want to pay 150+ to get this fixed, and I know that the official Apple external superdrive will not work with any MacBook that already has an internal superdrive. My question is, does anyone know any alternatives for superdrives that will be compatible with my MacBook that already has an internal superdrive?

The USB SuperDrive only works on Macs without internal optical drives as part of the design. In your case you need to get yours repaired or replaced by an Apple Store.

Kappy,

I have heard that externals that are not Apple brand work with Macs that have the internal optical drives as part of the design, I am asking to see if this is true. I am not asking about the Apple brand external superdrive.

Most all third-party external optical drives will work. You will need one that uses the USB port. Try OWC for suitable devices.

Yes Owc is the bes but is not cheep but you can get a blu-ray burner http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/MR3F8BDSD16/
