So every since I upgraded to yosemite I have been unable to open Facebook consistently.

I have tried many solutions offered for past problems. It seems this has been an issue for quite some while. It consistently freezes or hangs after a period of time and can't refresh but it is only Facebook other pages work fine even when they are on different tabs but the one with FB just will not work. I have clear out everything and restart to get it to load. Then it will start hanging eventually. It seems to work fine with the posts already loaded. Videos seem to work but should I hit anything or try to refresh it hangs and won't reload. Everything is up to date and worked fine until I upgraded. Works in Firefox without a problem about ready to give up a Safari in favor of Firefox. Pretty annoying problem considering how ubiquitous Facebook is. Many posts describing similar problems are over a year ago. Is anyone else experiencing this with similar versions? Is anyone at Apple working on a solution? Does anyone have any newer suggestions?

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:

1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM

b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:

Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the

COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the

computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager

screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.

3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.

When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.

4. Reinstall the 10.10.4 update: OS X Yosemite 10.10.4 Combo Update.

5. Reinstall OS X: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.

Reinstall the 10.10.4 update: OS X Yosemite 10.10.4 Combo Update, if required.

Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

Safari/Preferences/Advanced - enable the Develop menu, then go there and Empty Caches. Quit/reopen Safari and test. Then try Safari/History/Show History and delete all history items. Quit/reopen Safari and test. You can also try try Safari/Clear History and Web Site Data. The down side is it clears all cookies.Doing this may cause some sites to no longer recognize your computer as one that has visited the web site. Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library./Caches/com.apple.Safari/Caches.db and move it to the trash.

Go to Safari Preferences/Extensions and turn all extensions off. Test. If okay, turn the extensions on one by one until you figure out what extension is causing the problem.
