Cannot send mail

I am unable to send an email from my MacBook pro. The message I receive is "Cannot send message using server smtp.btinternet.com" The sender address was rejected by the server. It is asking me to select another outgoing mail server from a list but no of the servers allow me to send an email. I am receiving emails.......any help would be kindly appreciated.
