4th gen iPod nano won't sync to iTunes

I just bought some new songs through the iTunes Store and downloaded the newest version of iTunes (12.2.1) but my 4th generation iPod nano won't sync to my iTunes. It says it's syncing but none of the new songs or playlists sync to the iPod when it says sync is complete. Please help!
