Need Help - NonTech Family Member with iPhone 4s ios 5.1.1

He has never synced his iPhone 4s. I want to grab all the baby pictures of his daughter on to my MacBook Pro for safekeeping, but sync and backup iPhone to his Windows 7 laptop without mixing contacts, other photos, media, apps, etc....

iOS 8.4 is compatible but it will be slow on his 16gb 4s, but it needs to be done. The Sirius app is no longer compatible with anything less than iOS 6.1. How much room do you need to upgrade?
