software update os x lion:how long does it take

I bouught a macbok intel core 2 duo early 2008 model off of ebay and the previous owner didnt update it to os x lion. So i bought it the other day using my old apple id because thats the only one that I use. But I forgot the password to that email ages ago, so I made a new email. I just updated my apple id to all my current information, but I'm still worried that the update won't come through because of the change. PLEASE ANSWER! xx
