I have an 24" early 08 iMac. I installed new ram which worked fine for a week. Now it gave the improper shut down screen and it will not get past apple with progress loading bar not finishing. And then re starting again. I tried to go to recovery mode and it will not do that either. Also their are multiple vertical lines in the screen. Any thoughts??

What brand of RAM did you buy and where did you get it. iMacs are very sensitive to RAM, most experienced users on these forums only recommend OWC (www.macsales.com) or Crucial.
The vertical lines indicate the GPU is likely failing though, you may wan to consider looking for a replacement Mac.
IT was OWC. I replaced the 1 gigs for a 2 gig and a 4 gig , which was tested by them. Since I replaced with the original 1 gigs and the same response occurred.
Early 2008 iMac will not get past start up and will go into recovery mode
