Swapping RAM between Macbook Pros

Hi. New to RAM upgrades, but planning to upgrade my RAM on two machines. I hope to do this by:

- Upgrading my Macbook Pro 13 inch, late 2011 from 4GB to 8GB

- Upgrading my White Macbook 13 inch, late 2009 from 2GB to 4GB using the 4GB of RAM from the Macbook Pro above.

Can someone confirm if this will be possible? Ie. Will my 2011 Macbook Pro RAM work in my 2009 Macbook?

Thanks

MacBook, OS X Yosemite (10.10.4)

It may work, and it may not. There's no way to know for sure without trying it. The 2011 MBP uses 1333Mhz DDR3 RAM while the 2009 uses 1066Mhz DDR3 RAM.

If it works, the 1333MHz RAM may be clocked down to 1066Mhz.

Worst case scenario though, the 2009 Mac won't boot with the 1333Mhz RAM installed.

You can test this out directly, by placing the 2011 Ram in the 2009 MBP. If it works it works. Otherwise put the original RAM back in, and no harm will have come to the 2009 MBP.

Just an update on this in case anyone else wants to try it - I finally got around to putting my 4GB RAM from my Macbook Pro 13 inch, late 2011 into my Macbook 13 inch 2009 (white model). I can confirm that so far it's all working fine, and although not lightning fast, the speed has significantly improved. Thanks Phil0124 for suggesting just giving it a go - paid off!
