Q: Need help transitioning to new iCloud account

I am currently transitioning to an all new email on all my accounts, all is going well except I don't know how to approach the iCloud situation. How do I move to my new iCloud account and bring all of my information that's in my old iCloud account (such as contacts, photos, etc)

I am not asking how to log out and log in to a new account,  that's the easy part. I just don't know if doing this will leave behind all my photos and all my contacts.

Have you considered just changing your Apple ID to your new email address? The following may help: Change your Apple ID - Apple Support

You don't.  And you should not move to a different iCloud account. Because you will not be able to move the contents of the old iCloud account to the new one. All you should need to to do, is update the iCloud account with the new email address.

Go to http://appleid.apple.com Click on Manage, and then update the associated email address.

You should never create additional Apple IDs / iCloud accounts simply because your email account changed.

I already made my new Apple ID for the new address before starting this discussion, and in Apple's instructions on how to change your Apple ID, it says the email in question can't already by used as an Apple ID. Could I deactivate the new Apple ID or change the address for that one? That should free up the address for use on my original account right? Or is the email permanently marked as an Apple ID and unable to be used as a new address?

Yes. you can change the email address of the new one, to free it up, and then use it on the old one.

You can probably even use the old non functional address. You just won't be able to verify it. but that should not matter since you won't be using that Appleid any way.

Before you get into it I would suggest backing up the iCloud info

Archive or make copies of your iCloud data - Apple Support

Alright, thanks for the info on how to back up everything. I will have to do the transfer tomorrow because I want to backup my photos and I have 440 photos and 50 videos, won't play well with my 15mbps download speed that my ISP offers. will have to download overnight. Exported my contacts as a vCard I can import back into iCloud if anything goes wrong. I don't have much else of value in iCloud, so I'm set for now.
