My Apple Mail keeps crashing

Question

My apple mail keeps crashing. In the Console window, select          DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You&#x27;ll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.If you don&#x27;t see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they&#x27;re very long and rarely helpful.When you post the log extract or the crash report, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "The message contains invalid characters." Please read this whole message before doing anything.This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.Step 1The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don&#x27;t use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.Test while logged in as Guest by setting up one of your mail accounts. Same problem?After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.Step 2The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Thanks.  When I did step one and set up an account, I was able to send an email, but since the problems seems to happen when I am deleting messages, there were not messages so it wasn&#x27;t a very good test.  As far as test two, I was able to go in and delete a bunch of messages and it didn&#x27;t crash.  Back in regular mode, I seem to have the deleted items not going into the trash but coming back into the inbox.  So far, it has not crashed.  I guess I will watch for a while and see what happens.  Does this mean anything to you.  I have had problems ever since we switched servers.Thanks

There may be other issues, but at least one of your outgoing mail accounts has the wrong setting for authentication type. By default, Mail doesn&#x27;t try to log in to a mail server by sending the password in the clear.In the Advanced settings for the account in the Mail preferences window, check the box marked          Allow insecure authenticationYour password will be sent over the Internet in plain text every time you connect to the server. You should therefore have no expectation of privacy or security when using the mail account.To edit the settings for an outgoing mail (SMTP) account, double-click it in the Connection Doctor window, which you can open under the Window menu.

Hi:  I may be speaking too soon, but Mail has not crashed for a couple of days.  Maybe just the logging in and out may have reset something.  Or the server (if that was the problem) may have made some adjustments?  Who knows.  At this point it is wait and see.Thank you so much for your help.Judy
