Backing up Documents in the iCloud

I usually use Time Machine to back up my computers at home and at the office but I have recently started storing my documents on the iCloud Drive so I can access them from different computers.

Does Time Machine backup files stored on the iCloud Drive and if not how secure is my stuff? Do I need to periodically download the files and back them up manually?

Many thanks

Files in iCloud Drive are stored both on iCloud and on your Mac and by default, Time Machine includes them in your backup.

You can verify this by going to iCloud in Finder and then entering Time Machine to see previous backups.
