think my HD has become corrupted as cannot reinstall anything

I have been trying to use disk utility to repair my drive. I have two partiitions and wanted to erase and reinstall yosemite on my imac 2011 but have had untold problems. Sometimes it doesnt even recognise my drives and in Disk utility I cant repair or reformat anything. Any help would be appreciated. Does anone think my hard drive might be screwed?

iMac (27-inch Mid 2011), iOS 6

Restart in the Recovery Partition (Command + R) , open Disk Utility and Repair Disk 2-3 times. If errors appear after 2-3 attempts the HD needs to be replaced.
