I have tried to download Appleworkds6.2.9 i took security preferences off of restrictions and downloaded it. But now it says legacy image should be converted. I don't know what that means.

You do know that AppleWorks will not function with Yosemite?
AppleWorks stopped working when OS 10.7 rolled out in July 2011. You can however open AppleWorks text files and maybe spreadsheets with LibreOffice which is supported by OS 10.10:
