How can I sync an iPod nano and iPod touch separately?

How can iTunes treat an iPod nano and iPod touch separately? I want to have two devices recognized by iTunes and for the synced items to be separate, but there is only one named device, and it's the same for both devices.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.1.x)

You named your Nano and Touch the same thing?

It actually doesn't matter your computer will see them as different devices.

Thank you; it does appear to sync specific items for each iPod. I bought the nano long ago and synced it the the desktop. Then, when I got an iPod Touch, I used the desktop, but used a laptop to sync the iPod touch. Even though the computer seems to see them as different, the name is the same for both and I don't know how to change it for one of them; it doesn't matter, however, since the content is different and I can update both of them.

Thanks for the help.
