Compare 2 lists of names in numbers

Apologies for a complete noob question, I have been searching high and low for an answer but to no avail. Very limited knowledge of Numbers

I have 2 lists of names 1 in Column A (longer list) and 1 in Column B (Shorter list).

I would like the names in Column A that match the names Column B to be beside each other so I am left with a list of names in Column A with no match underneath the last row of matches. The names start in A1 and B1.

i am using Mac OS X 10.10.4

Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Mac mini (Late 2012), OS X Yosemite (10.10.4)

Hi vougiepond,

I think this is what you are asking for. I added a column between your A and B.

This looks for a match in column C for a value in column A. If it finds a match it returns the value from column C if not, it returns an error. Sort ascending and you are done.

I usually ask "Why are you trying to do this?" so if this doesn't work for your use let me know why you want to do this.
