I've got an iMac with Yosemite and an iPad Air2. I'd like to use Airdrop to send files from my Mac to iPad and I've activated Airdrop to be used by everyone on my iPad. When I go to Airdrop on my Mac however. My iPad device isn't found. Am I doing something wrong? Shouldn't my iPad appear in the Airdrop finder window?

Which model iMac do you have? Click on the Apple logo in the top menu in the left corner then click About this Mac and let us know which model it is.
It's an iMac (24-inch, begin 2009). I can select Airport through the Finder and via the Go in de main menu. But though both have wifi and bluetooth, the iPad doesn't show up on the iMac.
Your iMac is too old for AirDrop between OS X and iOS devices. Needs to be built in 2012 or later.
