Applications open very slowly

Question

My macbook is about 3-4 years old. Over a period of time it has slowed considerably. Applications take a lot of time to open. If i try to open multiple apps it hangs. I recently upgraded to Yosemite but that has not solved the problem. When you see a beachball cursor or the slowness is especially bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.   These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. As has been pointed out, your MBP is woefully short on RAM.  A 6.1 Macbook will accept up to 8 GB RAM.   The best sources of Mac compatible RAM are OWC and Crucial.Your battery needs to be replaced.  Old batteries sometimes can expand and cause damage to your Macbook.Rid you Macbook of the uTorrent application.  It is a good conduit for installing malware on your Macbook.You have several wireless carrier software installed on your Macbook.  Delete the ones you no longer use.Google Chrome is a resource hog among browsers.  Delete it and its various parts.  Use Firefox, Safari or Opera instead.Ciao.
