How did the photos get on the phone? If they were photos that you took with the device or any other photos in the camera roll, then you can use the trash can icon to delete them. If they were synced form iTunes, they must be removed by deselecting them and syncing again using iTunes.
- In iTunes, locate and click on your device.
- Click Photos.
- Choose "Selected albums" and deselect the albums or collections you want to delete.
To delete all synced photos, deselect "Sync Photos from" and, when asked, click "Remove photos."- Click Apply.

I still cannot remove the Albums that have filled my iPhone hard drive completely. Why is there no function to simply allow a user to delete images on the phone? I cannot see any function in iTunes, iTunes only shows the images taken on the iphone and yet the phone itself show the images + albums which contain thousands of images?
I am not computer illiterate and I have spent ages trying to resolve this. Unimpressed with the iOS software here, I thought it was supposed to user friendly.
I'm obviously missing something here, but the Apple software architects need to re-think this?....
When I went into iTunes it was already deselected. So I selected then deselected again. I got the popup to remove
photos but there was no response afterward. I clicked Sync and nothing happened. The photos are still taking up
28 GB worth of space. Why can't I just click on the albums I want to delete on the iPhone itself and delete that way.
This is a mess.
Try it this way. Create an empty folder on your desktop and call it Remove Photos. Then connect the phone to your computer, launch iTunes, select your phone in the devices tab, and click on the photos tab in iTunes.
Click on Copy Photos from and now select that empty folder called Remove Photos. Click on Apply or Sync and see if that removes all of the photos.
I am having this exact same problem. I even tried creating the "remove photos" folder, but iTunes is saying my computer does not have enough space, which doesn't make sense, and is not true. Help! My phone is completely full of photos, and I can not do anything on the phone because there is no storage left.
What finally worked was de-selecting "sync with iCloud Photos" on the phone itself, then syncing with the empty folder referred to above. All gone!
Where do I find the "sync with ipcloud photos" on the phone? I have the icloud drive off, photos off???
i tried to deselect them and it doesnt show the trash
