ipad constant sign in to iCloud

All of a sudden my iPad pops up a screen to sign in to iCloud. It will not accept my password (it is correct!) and if canceled, it will come right back. I have reset it to no avail. I have tried to restore it but need to shut down "find my iPad" but before I can completely enter my password, the sign in to iCloud pops up and cancels it.

Going around in circles here, any ideas?
