Why will iTunes not download podcasts to my PC? It is connected, music downloads, but not podcasts.

After recent iTunes updates, iTunes will no longer download podcasts to my windows based PC. I use an iPod Classic for workouts and cannot listen to them anymore because the will not download to my PC to sync. I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes with no luck. What do I need to do.

iPod classic (120 GB), iOS 8.1.1
