a1237 formatting

I have a Model A1237 MBA with a new Zif SSD installed. I'm trying to format it but nothing is working. I pressed ALT after the chime and connect to the wifi and that's as far as it takes me. I've also connected to the wifi and pressed command + R after connected and nothing. I've tried holding down c after the chime and I get a folder with the question mark... Anybody have a solution for this problem???

MacBook Air, Mac OS X (10.7.5)
