* OSX Yosemite "Clean install"?

Hi

I recently purchased a "NEW" 12" MacBook and I want to pass on my existing 13" Mid 2009 MacBook Pro to my daughter and I had intended to reinstall the system to factory settings using the discs supplied and then upgrade all the way through to OSX Yosemite but, my son just told me that I could download OSX Yosemite from the App Store, to a USB device and then boot from that to clean install Yosemite.

Is this correct and if so, is there a sequence of steps that need to be done to do this properly?

Hi Niel

As I said, I'm passing it on to my daughter so, is this not possible then?

I would imagine that if I restore it to factory settings and then upgrade right the way up to OS X Yosemite, there should be no problems when setting it up in my daughters name after initial factory install completed?

But, I was hoping to avoid that. 🙂
