I Did everything in the manual...no permissions problem...HD is ok...what do I do next...this happened before when I tried to override permissions of installing Kodak printer...but I got it working perfect again....Kodak is not compatible....period...but I bought a new printer yesterday, and it is sposed to be compatible, but during the process of installing it, the same thing happened and this time I can't get my MacBook Pro working...I turn it on, and it just sits there with the circle trying to find system...help me please......when I try to

TTried to reinstall using Mac OS X install DVD but it says this desk can't be used for startup..etc...2011 version 10.6.6

The directory is FUBR and needs to be repaired. Or Restore the system - completely.

ERASE and install. If you must and install on another (external) drive, then recover files and backup to a 3rd drive.

What specific model MacBook?

Where did the SL install DVD come from?

Is it gray? If so those are install disks that came with a new mac and can only be used for that modfel Mac. What is written on the DVD label?

What specific software did you try to install?

TThe disk is gray..came with Mac. Mac OS version 10.6.6. 2Z691-6806A 2011

I downloaded software for new Canon Pixma printer...but it wouldn't install...said I had to sign in as administrator ..then I logged in again, and nothing would work....

Am thinking son installed new version, not the one on the disk....will talk to him again...he said to erase, and download new install...

You have a 2011 MacBook Pro right?

If yes you can update the EFI firmware to add internet Recovery

Yes, son said disk may be older version of OS but should work fine

Did the computer have only have as high as 10.6.8 before?

I ask because some users have been unable to install SL for disk if the EFI firmware was updated for Internet Recovery. The min for Internet Recovery is 10.7.

Can the computer boot to internet recovery?

I Did the command R and got to where I can install Mavericks. But I'm going to have to take it to a wifi place...I only get 4MB per second....yes, you read it right...four...thank you all for you help! I sure appreciate it...actually, that is what my son said to do....lol
