My IPod Touch exploded. How is that possible?

Hello,

A few days ago my iPod Touch 4G exploded all of a sudden. There was a darting flame and the whole thing just melted on the spot.

I was really lucky that I was not in close vicinity to it. And that it didn't burn down my whole apartment.

Now it's common knowledge that phone batteries can explode when overheated but my iPod definitely wasn't hot (before it caught fire, of course...).
It also wasn't overly loaded. The battery was only half full.

So my question is: How can something like this happen?????? 😠

And: Will it happen again?????

Because I am actually scared to use any of my other Apple products at the moment... 😕

Has anyone else experienced something like this?

What can or should I do now?
Because I don't know how to contact Apple on this. The only support they have is a iOS-Diagnosis via E-Mail that is really useless for my problem at hand... 😟

thanks in advance,

cruvan

That does happen very infrequently and is usually due to an internal problem with the lithium-ion battery. Same as i phones and even laptop computers.
