iMessage Text Tone iPad/iPhone

In my settings I have my iMessage text tone different on my iPad than the text tone on my iPhone. However I get the same text tone on both devices (both have the iPhone selected tone). How do I change that so that the tone that is selected on my iPad is actually the tone that I hear?
