I want to keep my Mac tidy and was wondering if there is any reason to keep the downloaded installation files (for Apps I have bought direct from the supplier), after the App has been installed on the Mac, or should I just delete them (as I can always download a newer copy at a later date)?

You should keep them on an external drive in case they become unavailable from the web or that you find you don’t like the newer versions.

As long as you can download your installer again, then no there is no reason you need to keep them. The Mac App Store makes your purchases available for re-download just make sure your other purchases do the same.

So to be doubly sure, I should download and keep a new installer each time there is a software update for an app, so I can reinstall the latest version incase of a problem and the supplier no longer supports the product.
IF you're concerned that the developer will not support the product in the future Niel's suggestion is the way to go.
