Keeping Movies/TV Show Playlist in sync between two Computers

This may be a very obvious question--but I cannot work out an answer.

I have not many years had playlists of movies and TV shows that I sync between my Mac and iPad. I can then take my iPad on trips. When I watch a move on either device, I just remove the played video from the Playlist and then re-sync. And then the movie/TV show has gone from the iPad.

I now want to do the same thing with my MacBook Air replacing my iPad.

I have looked at Home Sharing, but that doesn't seem to do the trick.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)
