Thunderbolt connection issue MacBook Pro

I am having difficulty getting thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter connection to work. Have new 2015 MacBook Pro.10.10.3 Yosemite With thunderbolt ports.I first got the self assigned IP address issue and none of the quick fixes resolved the issue. I was asked to contact my Internet provider and get a static ip, subnet and router addresses. Immediately after configuring the IPv4 manually with that information, it showed connected, light was green etc..however..it still was not connected to the Internet. Any thoughts?

Hi there JKreisle,

It sounds like you have connected your adapter to your computer and ethernet cable but you cannot get to the internet. You may need to set it up as a device in your Network settings first, and this article will help you do that:
