The map and pins in "Places" keep disappearing (leaving blank page). It used to work fine. Preferences have not changed (look up Places on auto). Is there a fix for this? Currently have iPhoto 11 (9.4.3).

There seems to be a problem with the map server for the older iPhoto versions, iPhoto 9.4.3 and earlier. his has been going on for more than a month now. These versions are using Google-Maps. The maps in the newer iPhoto versions - iPhoto 9.5.1 and iPhoto 9.6.1 are working well. Could you upgrade to MacOS X 10.10.4 and iPhoto 9.6.1? Apple stopped selling iPhoto, so I have not much hope, that the problem of the missing maps in older iPhoto versions will be fixed in the near future.
To be able to upgrade to iPhoto 9.6.1 you need to have an iPhoto version that is showing in your Purchases history at the App Store and upgrade to Yosemite as well. See this user tip:

Yes, it is. But in this particular case it ids probably caused by Apple and Google not renewing the lease for Google Maps. It is the same for the previous Aperture versions that still used Google Maps. A pity, because the older maps were far superior to the new Apple maps; they had terrain data and much more other detail. It was much easier to place places markers for photos taken on a hiking trip off the roads, based on the terrain data.
