phone completely dead
Phone worked fine this morning. An hour later could not turn it on. Cannot restart. Tried accessing through iTunes. Nothing. Battery charged. Phone is dead.

Did you try a forced restart?
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
