Q: Transfer library

We used to have our iTunes library set to our external hard drive from our desktop. The desktop died. Now when I try to access the library on the external hard drive from our laptop, it won't link to it. Even when I go in and change the path to the library to the external drive, it shows nothing in iTunes. What am I doing wrong? Any suggestions?

If the iTunes database files were on the external drive, launch iTunes with the Shift key held down and choose that library.
If the iTunes database files were on the internal drive, drag the iTunes media files to the open iTunes application window or the Automatically Add to iTunes folder.
