IOS can't hide photos

I have some personal photos which I don't want anyone else to see. I have hidden them as informed but those photos are still visible in my photostream and camera roll and on every IOS device. The only advantage of "hiding photos" is that they are now collected in the Hidden photos album. Anyone else experienced this? I have the latest versions of apps and IOS.
