hello, My iphone 5 was stolen...please can anyone help..

Hello, My iphone 5 was stolen on friday. The theif has turned it off so i blocked sim, then logged on to icloud but it says my device is offline. Will lost mode work if it has a blocked sim and says im offline? .. and will it just appear when phone is switched on? thanks so much for your help!!
