Dell Dell UP2414Q with old macbook pro (2012, no retina) ?

I have a question concerning this article: Using 4K displays and Ultra HD TVs with your Mac - Apple Support

I am going to buy a new macbook pro + the Dell UP2414Q.

Can I use the Dell UP2414Q with my old macbook pro (2012, no retina) ? It can only show an external resolution of 2560x1600. Will it work though ?
