Time machine back up.

I seem to have deleted my entire iPhoto library. I've tried to restore using Time Machine which is on, but it's not working - the button on the bottom right hand side of the screen doesn't light up for me to restore Any ideas? I also thought I had everything backed up to an external hard drive but I can't find the photos in there either.Having tried again to restore to a different time I have this error message - The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -8058).
