Can't import songs from iTunes 12.2.1.16 to iPhone 5 with iOS 8.1.3

Hello eveyone,

i just bought my first MacBook so i'm still learning how to use it, but i've been using iTunes on my Windows PC for years.

Last night i updated my iTunes to the latest version (12.2.1.16), my iPhone 5s still has an old version of iOS (8.1.3), i don't want to update it because i'm not totally on board with the new AppleMusic app, and now i can't upload my own songs (not bought on iTunes store) on my iPhone. But my iPad (that i just updated to iOS 8.4) has no problems with the new iTunes.

Does this mean that i have to update my iPhone too??? Is there no way the new iTunes can "communicate" with an old version of iOS???
