Aug 2, 2015 9:06 AM in response to hsr2015by FoxFifth,AirDrop between an iPhone and a Mac requires a 2012 or later model Mac with Yosemite installed. See additional requirements from Use AirDrop to send files from your Mac to another nearby Mac or iOS device - Apple Support that I have copied and pasted below:
To see if your Mac works with AirDrop, make sure you’re in the Finder by clicking the desktop (the background area of your screen), or by clicking the Finder icon in the Dock. Then, check to see if AirDrop is listed as an option in the Go menu. If you don't see AirDrop listed, your Mac doesn't support this feature.
In order to transfer files between a Mac and and an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch
- Your iOS device needs to include a lightning connector
- Your iOS device needs iOS 7 or later installed
- Your Mac needs to be a 2012 or later model with OS X Yosemite installed*
- Your Mac and iOS device both need bluetooth and Wi-Fi turned on. You do not have to be connected to a specific Wi-Fi network.

Aug 3, 2015 1:33 AM in response to FoxFifthby hsr2015,Thanks FoxFifth....my mac has OS X Yosemite... Also it shows AirDrop in the Go menu... I can transfer files from my iphone to another Mac (having OS X Yosemite) but not my mac.. in fact I can't connect bluetooth too between my iphone and my Mac. Could that be the reason? I am extremely angry since I cannot connect both my devices (without attaching a cable)

Aug 3, 2015 8:08 AM in response to hsr2015by FoxFifth,Is your Mac a 2012 or later model year? That is a requirement in the list I posted in my previous reply.
Regarding Bluetooth, the iPhone is not designed to pair with any computer via Bluetooth (except for personal hotspot). For AirDrop, Bluetooth must be turned on for both devices but they are not (and will not) pair.

Sorry forgot to mention that in my reply... it is a mid 2012 release...so I guess it should support AirDrop.
